Sitting in the cœur Napoleon, at the Louvre,
conquest and empires can be expected to come up as a topic. I must
reminded myself that Louis XIV was a general, too, and had seen much
blood shed and the chaos of war from the battle field point of view.
From this two thoughts come to mind, the flawed human, a temporal
being, and the grandiose architecture as a gambit for immortality that
attracts the powerful. Generals build empires-Napoleon and Louis-to
rise great edifices to rise up from the condition of the average man.
